Here’s a bigger version of the Shady Corners sign from Yakima, WA that I sketched quite a while ago. Drawing the sign carefully first made it easier to maintain the freshness of the earlier sketch while building bigger blocks of color.

Watercolor and the web

I’ve found some gorgeous pictures lately simply by using google. Wikipedia is also a great place to start.
The Brooklyn Watercolor Society is a great resource for these images and an inspiration for anyone who wields a brush and dreams of greatness.
I particularly like Olive Reich’s chunky blocks of color in describing a Vermont doorway.
