MTurk - a new twist on Artificial Intelligence

November 6th, 2005 · No Comments

Amazon.com has launched (in Beta) an interesting service called that pays you (in micropayment form) for completing tasks only a human would know how to do well. Scott McCloud has written in depth about the concept of micropayments, or payments so small that consumers will not think it a burden to, say, buy a limited service or service for a limited period of time. Both Amazon and Google are now working on this idea, Amazon in particular this week with the ability to purchase one page of a book you might want to own.

This raises the question (or opportunity) of using Amazon’s system to contract with folks you don’t know over the net to complete tasks you don’t want to do. I wonder how they’re going to handle the security aspect of this technology?
