Holiday Motel, and other watercolors

August 14th, 2005 · 1 Comment

This picture of the Holiday Motel is another example of my affinity for old signs. I’m happy with the result. This particular motel is located between Redmond,OR and Bend, OR.

I’ve also been making studies recently using a neat, handmade watercolor paper that bleeds like crazy. It’s freed me up a bit to make these sketches; you never know what you’re going to get until you’re done. Here’s an example fit for summer, and some more.

Really enjoying the watercolors, Greg. I’m especially fond of the ones that feature signs and pieces of technologyl, subjects one rarely sees in watercolor.

One of your classmates, Emily Cooper (’94) is visiting and finishing a watercolor downstairs. She’s decided to take this whole art thing rather seriously, giving up her career in natural language processing and artificial intelligence for a new one in science illustration - you may be interested in what she’s currently doing: http://www.cooperhawk.com/
