Vaccinium parvifolium (RED HUCKLEBERRY)

June 26th, 2005 · 3 Comments

While foraging for roots and berries in the yard, we noticed that we have a rather sizable Red Huckleberry plant there.

Red Huckleberries have antioxidant qualities as well as other beneficial health effects.

I guess I’ll be fighting the birds for these now ;)

My brother’s former Seattle home had a huckleberry bush in the backyard, too. I used to love to pick ‘em, throw ‘em up in the air as high as I could, and catch ‘em in my mouth.

I think we made a huckleberry pie once, too. Mmmmm… tasty!

I would like to get some red huckleberry seed, but I understand that they grow wild so this may be hard to do. I would like to buy some of the berries and see if I could get a plant from them. I do raise the dark huckelberry in my garden but would like to have the red ones also .
would you please send me a pint of the red huckleberrys and I will try my luck with them.
