I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to make a difference, and not simply by raising funds for good causes.
TechFinder is a good way to find out information on companies and individuals that support others. Idealist is a more personalized way to find similar information.
Companies that support these organizations include Convio, Blackbaud, and Kintera.
A particularly neat idea, I think, is to help companies that want to pay their employees to volunteer track the use of that time. Angelpoints is the only company I can find that is working toward this goal, though I’m sure there must be more companies out there working on the same concept, or innovating within big companies.
These companies are on to something: the ability to make money and do good at the same time.

the company i work for, Jones Apperal Group will pay you for volunteering time to their “adopt a classroom” program. they will let you volunteer at a school for 4 hours / month, they pay you and the school gets your time… and it can even be at your own kid’s school.
